Extracurriculars

For the 2019-2020 school year IMA will be offering a variety of extracurricular classes after 3:00 p.m. IMA extracurricular classes are offered by IMA staff and approved vendors. Children will engage in classes that foster new friendships and creative and creative skills. 

Extracurricular classes for session 1 begin the week of September 16. Using your registration form, teachers will direct your children to your chosen classes each day. If a class is cancelled or full, IMA will notify your family in advance. Otherwise, you can assume that your child is enrolled and he or she can attend class on the first day of the session.

Registration is offered on a first-come, first-served basis as spaces are limited per class.

Soccer Class

Program Description:

If you are looking for a fun, friendly and energetic soccer experience look no further!  HappyFeet uses nursery rhymes, songs, stories and fun games with a soccer ball to maximize motor skill development.  HappyFeet classes are 30 minutes in length (National Association for Sports & Physical Education recommendation).  Every child constantly has a ball and learns new soccer moves, skills, and games throughout the session!  To make sure every child has a positive experience, HappyFeet classes are non-competitive.  We use fun techniques to train advance motor skills, dynamic dribbling, shooting skills and fitness.

Drama Class

Program Description:                                                                                                                                     

Drama Class is an enjoyable experience that enhances children’s natural performance abilities.  The class consists of structured theatre games and activities that will develop children’s imagination and creativity,

communication and language skills, and strengthen their social and emotional skills.  Children will have the opportunity to explore and discuss theatrical concepts, increase confidence and self-esteem, and to express their emotions in a non-competitive and supportive environment with other children.

Groovin’ Tots

Age Group: Toddler (18 – 30 mos.)

Program Description:

Does your Toddler love to dance?  If you answered yes, then Groovin’ Tots is the class for you!  During this 30- minute dance class, little ones will be introduced to ballet, creative concepts and stretch/strength exercises through imagination and interactive games.  The objective of the class is to develop confidence, rhythm and coordination.  We will be using Anne Green Gilbert’s work to introduce concepts such as speed, flow, levels and more through a ballet lens.  Children will use props such as scarves, hula hoops and ribbons to visually grasp these creative concepts.  Children will also work on gross motor skills such as jumping, crawling, running, balancing, tip-toeing and more.  At the end of each class, these groovin’ tots will explore their creative sides through improvisation and free dance.

 

Creative Dance and Introduction to Ballet

Drama Kids focuses on building key like skills through high energy, fast paced, after school drama classes. Our Drama Kids classes include a variety of stimulating dramatic lessons perfectly suited for young children. In a fun-filled atmosphere, our classes aim to give young people ongoing confidence, self-esteem and skill in verbal communication.

Program Description:

In this fantastic and unusual art class, the children will explore themselves with different media such as paint, markers, playdough, crayons, salt and grains to build a new world with their own creative imagination! We focus on each student and their own expression, confidence, and creativity!

Program Description:

Our music classes provide a playful and nurturing environment where your child will sing, move and play a variety of instruments; all while developing social skills, problem-solving skills, pre-math skills and a foundation for reading.  Each class is filled with multi-cultural music from around the world, creative movement, singing and rhyming, and discovering new instruments including drums, shakers, the keyboard, guitar, ukuleles, xylophones and more!  Our research-based program focuses on whole-child development and nurtures every area of your child’s brain and body.

Young Musicians provides a pressure-free class where your child can develop a strong musical foundation in a fun and nurturing environment.  Children will learn their speaking and singing voice through imitating and exploring the sounds, tone, beat, meter and rhythm of music.  Each class involves moving, singing, finger playing, and instrument exploration.  We incorporate the Suzuki method as well to teach ear training on the keyboard and through listening activities as well.

Program Description:

The main intention of this yoga program is to instill a love for yoga in children at a very young age. Every yoga session will have 4 components in it. It will begin with some warm up stretches, followed by a story with a theme, and a relaxation technique to end each session. Warm up stretches are done to get the children ready to go on an exciting yoga adventure. Every yoga session will have a different story that has yoga postures embedded as part of it. Stories will be based on themes like kindness, compassion, respect...etc.

Program Description:

Kidding Around Yoga teaches children postures and yoga philosophy through fun songs, games and dancing.  We practice postures, mindfulness, meditation, learn about yoga history, karma yoga, and the many benefits of the practice.  This class promotes strength building, balance, concentration, focus and provide tools to calm the mind and body.

Program Description:

Engaging models based on a variety of themes, including the alphabet, animals and more are the building blocks of our Bricks4Kids pre-school curriculum.  Once a week, children will build a model based on one of the themed units, while practicing essential pre-school skills including: letter recognition, patterns, colors, counting, fine and gross-motor skills, position and ordering, vocabulary, and comparing and contrasting.

Program Description:

WEBBY classes begin with stretching and warm-up exercises.  Children are then taught creative movement and dance techniques across the floor.  Children can dance to their favorite songs while using fun props (i.e.…. maracas, tambourines, pom-poms, leis, etc.).  With over 300 dances in our curriculum, students are regularly introduced to new and exciting routines.

Program Description:

WEBBY Gymnastics class begins with stretching and warm-up exercises.  Children are then taught basic tumbling and balancing skills, obstacle courses and exciting routines to age-appropriate music.  The children will explore different Gymnastic stations such as a balance beam, tunnel, tumbling mate, rhythmic ribbons and other creative equipment.

Program Description:

Seattle Kids Yoga (SKY) classes are filled with kid-friendly yoga poses and breathing exercises, creativity and mindfulness, games and laughter, and most importantly, fun and connection!  SKY teachers design thoughtful and joyful classes based on children's interests, with the intention of giving them tools to take “off the mat” and into the world.  Some of the benefits received from SKY classes are increased motor skills, self-regulation, community building, body awareness, and concentration.  Sample class themes include:  Autumn Equinox, Peace Begins with Me, Nocturnal Animals, Yoga Obstacle Course, Circus Yoga, Outer Space Blasts Off, Gratitude is Our Attitude, and Animals with Tails.  Simple crafts, music, books, sensory exploration, and time for sharing and relaxation are infused into the classes to create a unique and enjoyable learning experience for all.  For more information about this program, please visit www.SeattleKids.yoga.

Program Description:

Dance education in a nurturing environment with an emphasis on conceptual learning and creative exploration.  Class will include a warm-up and exploration of different dance concepts (shapes, size, direction, balance, pathways, etc.) Children will learn various “story dances” to connect language with movement.  Dancers will practice large motor skills such as leaping, hopping, galloping and skipping.
