Daily Routine

Each day includes morning greetings, literacy lessons, Montessori work cycles, extended math practice, hands-on science and cultural studies, leadership opportunities, project-based learning, outdoor play, and community-building activities. These rhythms help kindergarteners feel capable, purposeful, and excited to learn.

Classroom Experience

In our Montessori kindergarten classroom, children work confidently with advanced Montessori materials, take on leadership roles, and receive individualized lessons that support their strengths and growth areas. Our Montessori-trained guides blend direct instruction with child-led exploration, creating a nurturing environment where learning is joyful, meaningful, and connected to real-world understanding.

About Our Montessori Kindergarten Program

Kindergarten is a transformative year, one where children move from early exploration into deeper understanding, independence, and responsibility. At International Montessori Academy, our Montessori kindergarten curriculum aligns with both U.S. and international standards, allowing students to progress confidently toward elementary expectations while still benefiting from a peaceful, hands-on Montessori classroom environment. Research from the American Montessori Society confirms that kindergarten-age children learn best through self-directed work, collaboration, and concrete materials that lead naturally into abstract thinking. In this supportive environment, your child receives individualized guidance, meaningful academic challenges, and the space to grow into a confident, compassionate learner and global citizen.

From Age 5 to Age 6: How Our Kindergarten Program Supports Your Child's Development

By the time children reach kindergarten, they arrive with growing curiosity, expanding social awareness, and a readiness to take on more complex academic work. At this age, research shows that children begin strengthening early executive functioning, developing early reading fluency, grasping foundational math concepts, and building the confidence needed for leadership and collaboration. In our Montessori kindergarten classrooms, we intentionally support each of these milestones through hands-on materials, different language experiences, and a nurturing environment that allows your child to work at their own pace. This approach aligns with developmental guidance from the CDC, NAEYC, and the American Montessori Society.

Practical Life Skills for Kindergarten Readiness & Executive Functioning

At 5 and 6 years old, children are developing the ability to plan, follow multi-step tasks, regulate emotions, and persist through challenges, these skills are key executive functioning skills. In our kindergarten practical life curriculum, your child practices responsibility, care of the environment, leadership, and community awareness, all of which strengthen concentration, self-control, patience, and independence.

Sensorial Exploration for Logical Thinking & Early Abstraction

Through sensorial exploration, our Kindergarteners refine their visual, tactile, and auditory discrimination skills, which are essential for reading, measurement, geometry, and scientific thinking. Montessori sensorial materials help children compare, sequence, sort, and analyze, supporting age-appropriate milestones in reasoning and classification.

Language Foundations for Reading Fluency & Confident Communication

Around age 5-6, children begin blending sounds, building sentences, and reading early texts with increasing fluency. In our kindergarten classrooms, Montessori materials such as sandpaper letters, phonetic objects, grammar symbols, bilingual vocabulary lessons, and the Moveable Alphabet help your child strengthen decoding, writing, and oral language skills.

Mathematics for Concrete Understanding & Problem-Solving Confidence

Five- and six-year-olds are developmentally ready to understand quantity, place value, and simple operations, skills that become the basis for later abstract math. Montessori math materials, such as golden beads, number rods, bead chains, and the decimal system, allow your child to explore these concepts through touch and movement.

Cultural Studies for Expanding Curiosity & Global Awareness

At this age, children begin forming an understanding of community, cultures, the natural world, and their place in it. Through geography puzzles, botany and zoology classification, early history stories, science experiments, and world art, our kindergarten curriculum nurtures curiosity, respect, and cultural understanding.
